Welcome to Germany with Anna Scott
The start
Anna Scott our lovely tutor arrived in Berlin from Copenhagen where she previously was visiting her family. On the arrival day, we enjoyed welcome drinks and a 3 course dinner in our hotel. The hotel has the best location as it is situated in the centre of Potsdam. If you turn right, you can go directly to all the shops and landmarks such as the small Brandenburg Gate in Potsdam and if you take a right, you will walk directly into the Park of Sanccouci. That was a major bonus point for us.
The first day of stitching with Anna calmly distributed all the embroidery designs and everyone was nervous but also excited. The workroom is ready with magnifying lamps and little printed Creative Experiences bins for threads (yes, we are very proud of that). Anna is so gentle in her teaching that you don’t feel like sitting in a classroom. Her gentle voice is telling our guest how to iron the fabric and attach it to the frame without over stretching it. The first stitch is always the hardest but once our guests are going there is no stopping them.
Anna's Design
This year, Anna had created a very interesting project. She had explore techniques by doing two versions of one design. One in wool and one in silk. We really liked this option as the guest could decide how they wanted to stitch the design and personalise it in their own way.
We explored the surroundings
We enjoyed a half day excursion in Berlin visiting the Brandenburg Gate and taking a boat trip on the river Spree.
Another day, we had a fabulous private tour at the Neues Palais where Annette showed us around and told us about t
he shells in the palace. There is a very large room in the palace which was used to entertain guests, and this room is covered in shells from floor to ceiling. 3 staff members from the refurbishment department joint us for a 15-minute talk and they told us about how they refurbished the damask wall panels. The damask was very damaged because of the sun and the old age and when they pulled back a little bit of the damask, they found a little piece which was untouched for 230 years. This little piece was used to weave the same pattern which was then used to refurbish the whole bedroom.
After our visit to the palace, we enjoyed German cake and ice cream at the restaurant Dragonhouse which is located in the Park Sanccouci.
We enjoyed sitting in the hotel gardens and terrace to enjoy our pre-dinner drinks.
