Hannah Mansfield

Hannah Mansfield is a freelance hand embroiderer and textile artist based near Bristol, UK. With a lifelong passion for needlework, she began stitching at a young age and went on to earn a degree in Textile Design. Today, Hannah is recognised for her contemporary approach to traditional hand embroidery techniques, blending heritage craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.

Her practice includes both commissioned work and original designs, many of which are available through her online shop. She is particularly renowned for her innovative use of goldwork, and in 2019 was awarded first place in the Textile Art Open Category of the prestigious Hand & Lock Prize for her three-dimensional goldwork flowers.

In 2020, Hannah was admitted as a Trade Freeman to The Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers—an honour reflecting her commitment to excellence in the field of decorative embroidery.

Hannah is one of the UK’s few professional embroiderers proficient in tambour beading, a specialist couture technique. She is the author of Tambour Beading: Techniques and Projects (The Crowood Press, 2024), the most comprehensive English-language resource on tambour currently available.

As a tutor, Hannah is deeply committed to sharing her expertise. She delivers the CHANEL and The King's Foundation’s Métiers d’Art Fellowship at Highgrove Traditional Crafts—an intensive postgraduate programme—and regularly teaches for textile groups and organisations across the UK. Her work has been featured in Inspirations magazine, and she also offers online classes via her own platform and as part of the Textile Artist’s Stitch Club.
