Judith Cordell's Tuscan Rosaline Perle Lacemaking Retreat | 3rd – 10th June 2027

Join acclaimed Rosaline Perle lacemaking artist Judith Cordell for a richly creative week in the heart of Tuscany.

Hosted by Creative Experiences, this inspiring retreat offers 4.5 days of expert tuition (27 hours) as Judith guides participants through her exquisite lacemaking designs of Rosaline Perle lace. With only 14 bobbins, you can achieve the most gorgeous designs.

You will stay at the elegant Hotel Villa La Principessa, a converted 13th-century villa nestled just outside Lucca. With its bold fabric-covered walls and warm, attentive service, the hotel provides a restful and atmospheric base for your stitching week.

Beyond the studio, enjoy two specially curated excursions: a full-day trip to Villa Reale di Marlia and the town of Lucca with time to explore its iconic towers and streets and famous gelato. A separate afternoon to visit Pisa is planned to see the leaning tower and more gelato. Judith Cordell

My journey into lacemaking began in 1994, quite by chance, when I discovered bobbin lacemaking in an Adult Education brochure. What started as a way to fill my time quickly grew into a lifelong passion.  As a tutor I am best known for teaching Rosaline Perle — a lesser-known Belgian lace that continues to inspire me. Even today, I’m still discovering new techniques from antique pieces and enjoy introducing coloured silks to keep my designs fresh and contemporary.
