8 days
Spend a magical pre-Christmas week in Paris with Anna Scott, combining four inspiring days of stitching with wonderful textile discoveries, historic landmarks and the enchanting atmosphere of the French capital during the festive season.
Across four creative stitching days, you will enjoy time working alongside Anna and a small group of like-minded enthusiasts. Our stitching time will be spent at the renowned Au Ver à Soie Atelier, surrounded by the colours, materials and heritage of one of France’s most celebrated silk-thread houses.
Your home for the retreat will be the Hôtel Paix République, ideally situated for exploring Paris and enjoying the city as it prepares for Christmas. From elegant boulevards and beautifully decorated shop windows to sparkling lights and seasonal markets, Paris in late November provides a wonderfully atmospheric backdrop for this special creative escape.
Alongside the stitching programme, two thoughtfully planned excursion days will introduce you to some of the city’s most inspiring cultural and textile destinations.
Our first excursion begins with a morning visit to the Palais Galliera, Paris’s renowned fashion museum, where its exceptional exhibitions celebrate the history, artistry and influence of fashion. In the afternoon, we will visit the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral before taking a leisurely walk through the nearby Christmas market, enjoying its festive stalls, seasonal treats and magical setting in the historic heart of Paris.
Our second excursion day will begin with a visit to a special exhibition, details of which will be confirmed nearer the time. Afterwards, we will travel to Montmartre for textile shopping in the renowned fabric district at the foot of Sacré-Cœur. Here, we will explore the fabric shops and haberdasheries around Place Saint-Pierre, rue Livingstone and rue d’Orsel while soaking up the creative atmosphere of one of Paris’s most characterful neighbourhoods.
The afternoon will be free for Christmas shopping, further textile discoveries or exploring more of Paris’s beautiful landmarks and hidden corners at your own pace.
With four lunches and three dinners included, there will be plenty of opportunities to relax over delicious food, share stories from the day and enjoy the company of fellow stitchers.
On our final evening, we will come together for a very special farewell dinner cruise along the River Seine. As Paris glows around us, we will enjoy dinner on the water while passing some of the city’s most celebrated illuminated landmarks—the perfect ending to an unforgettable creative week.
Combining creative stitching, exceptional textile destinations, Parisian culture and the romance of the city just before Christmas, this retreat promises to be a memorable and inspiring experience.
What’s Included
Anna Scott
Anna is a Danish born embroidery artist, designer and tutor. She has called Australia home for a long time and lives in the beautiful Adelaide hills in South Australia.
“I didn’t choose to embroider – Embroidery chose me.”
Anna completed a degree in technical hand embroidery at the Danish Needlecraft Guild College with honours. She has been designing and teaching embroidery since 2000 and has worked on ecclesiastical vestments in Denmark, including the bishops cope for Aarhus Cathedral, Denmark designed by Queen Margrethe II. After writing and editing for Inspirations magazine for many years, Anna now focuses on her own embroidery business, creating stitched art pieces, teaching both locally and around the world and developing kits for her Fine Stitch Studio brand.
“Needle in hand makes me happy…”
Anna practises a wide range of embroidery techniques. She particularly enjoys styles that involve colour, pattern and texture – crewel embroidery, raised embroidery and goldwork being her favourites. Her designs are largely inspired by traditional hand embroidery and decorative arts, with a subtle contemporary twist and the results can best be described as ‘traditional but not typical’.
“My life is in stitches, literally. I stitch when I can find time or make time – it is part of who I am. If I am not stitching, I am most likely thinking about it.”
Bookings open on Saturday 25th July at 2pm UK Time.
