Claire Bonito

Claire Bonito

Claire has been making and designing lace for over 30 years, learning her craft under Pat Read MBE and later Jacquie Tinch. She teaches a range of laces but specialises in and is most known for Milanese. She has become well known for her contemporary designs using both Milanese and Withof lace techniques. Claire teaches in a range of settings across the UK. She is a talented and highly respected teacher, lacemaker and designer.

Her students say that “Claire has an easy manner and friendly nature”, and that she is an excellent communicator, tailoring her teaching style to suit the individual learning needs of her students. Her classes are popular with both new and regular students alike.

Claire was awarded both the Individual’s and the Visitor’s Choice Trophies in the Lace Guild’s ‘Contrasts’ Exhibition, and was previously awarded a Medal for Excellence for her ‘Waterlily Mat’ in their ‘Movement’ exhibition.

In recent years Claire has been a regular tutor online for The Lace Museum in California as part of their Virtual Education Programme, where she teaches both her Milanese specialism and complete beginners to bobbin lace too.

Claire has recently written her first book “Modern Milanese Lace, Techniques and Projects”
