Learn to make Bobbin Lace – Star Flower Picture

I am a qualified lacemaking tutor based in the UK, passionate about keeping bobbin lace making techniques alive for all to enjoy this beautiful craft.

Whether working in traditional white cotton or exploring the use of coloured silk and textured threads. Braiding and twisting threads wound around bobbins is a restful, soothing pastime that creates a beautiful fabric.

Lace is the go to fabric for many fashion designers. Its stylish, versatile and perfect for any occasion. Making a whole outfit may be a step too far, but using lace creatively in a contemporary setting is rewarding, fun to do and will never go out of fashion.

If you have ever thought you’d like to try lacemaking this is the time to create a beautiful Star Flower. Learn how to make lace, using readily available embroidery threads to create a colourful piece of lace artwork.

A kit containing a pillow, bobbins, pins, thread and beads can be purchased for £25. All you need to step into the world of lacemaking and produce an inspirational flower motif to adorn a book cover, bag or embellish your jacket. Patterns of differing sizes will be available for you to choose from.

Rosaline Perle

I am a published author of two books on Rosaline Perle Lace. I teach a regular monthly workshop in Winchester, UK. I also travel to groups around the country teaching beginners to advanced and those who wish to try their hand at designing. I have also taught in the US and across Europe.

Rosaline Perle techniques have seen a rise in popularity over recent years. I design modern patterns taking inspiration from antique pieces of Rosaline lace, exploring different stitches used by previous bobbin lace makers who worked their art for a living, their precious work has been preserved for us to enjoy as a creative past time today.

The fine floral work can be worked on a larger scale. The techniques are the same, just easier on our eyes .

If you are new to Rosaline Perle, during the week you can expect to work the motifs that make up the first steps, building your skills by working pretty patterns in this non continuous lace. You will not be restricted by pin holes to aim for. I will guide you to a more free and fluid approach to lacemaking.

Basic skills in lacemaking are essential for this course.
