Join Cathy Emmott of Dear Emma Designs for five days of creativity, stitching, and relaxation in the Worcestershire countryside. Set in the stylish 4-star Bank House Hotel, this retreat offers the perfect mix of expert-led workshops, gentle exploration, and time to recharge. With on-site spa and wellness facilities—including a swimming pool, sauna, and treatment rooms—you’ll have plenty of opportunities to unwind between sessions and soak in the calm, creative atmosphere.

Across three full teaching days (18 hours total), you’ll work on two exclusive projects: the popular Pretty Street Scene Fabric Bowl and a brand-new design—a seaside-inspired panel tote bag, created specially for this retreat. With Cathy’s expert guidance, you’ll build confidence in free-motion machine embroidery and raw edge applique, surrounded by a supportive group of fellow makers.

As an optional extra, we’ll also offer a short two-hour trip into Worcester at the end of one teaching day. You’ll have the chance to visit a local haberdashery, wander the historic streets, and take in the impressive Worcester Cathedral—a lovely way to gather inspiration and enjoy a change of scenery.

About Cathy Emmott – Dear Emma Designs

Cathy Emmott is the creative force behind Dear Emma Designs, a charming textile studio nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. From her light-filled garden workshop, Cathy brings her whimsical ideas to life using free-motion machine embroidery and raw-edge applique—techniques she now shares with students across the UK.

Originally trained as an engineer, Cathy rediscovered her love of sewing while raising her young children and made the leap into running a creative business. Her work is inspired by the simple beauty of garden birds, wildflowers, and rows of quaint terrace houses, all stitched with care using a mix of high-quality linens, cottons, and carefully sourced new and vintage fabrics.

Cathy’s work has been exhibited at major textile shows, featured in national publications, and she is regularly invited to teach and speak about her process and journey. Her pieces reflect not only a distinctive creative style but also a deep-rooted passion for making, teaching, and inspiring others to explore the joy of textile art.
