About The Host

Lorna Bateman

Lorna Bateman

I have been teaching for over 30 years now in related fields of 3-dimensional and textured hand embroidery and have designed my own range of kits for 20 years. I work full-time as an embroidery teacher and designer and have done so since 1989.

I enjoy working with a variety of threads and silk ribbons to achieve a raised and textured effect in my work. I love experimenting with a number of different embroidery techniques, including ribbon embroidery, stumpwork, crazy patchwork, painting on fabric, canvaswork and applique. I am passionate about colour and about nature and often use flowers and landscapes as sources of inspiration.

I have lived in the UK for the past 19 years, having originated from South Africa. My teaching has taken me all over the UK, South Africa, Russia, France and the USA.

I have had my work featured and published in a numbers of publications, including Stitch (UK) and Australian Inspirations, amongst many others. I have appeared on Justhands-On-TV and also on Hochanda craft channel. My book, Embroidered Country Gardens, was published in July of 2019 and released in French in 2020.

Teaching is my passion! My goal is to try and encourage people to try as many different forms of embroidery as possible, using a kit as an aid to move onto working and experimenting with their own designs. I love working with beginners and reaping the rewards of their enjoyment.
